Historical Profile: Landing Ship Tank Memorial

Boston, MA. - At the Massachusetts State House there is a memorial dedicated to the crewmembers of landing ship tanks that were used during the 20th Century. The landing ships used in different parts of the world were the largest ocean going amphibious vessels to land artillery, supplies, troops, and vehicles onto enemy held beaches in every major conflict.

Part of the plaque in the State House reads:  "Landing Ship Tank Memorial: Dedicated to the  Navy and Coast Guard men of Massachusetts who manned landing ship tanks during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts." The memorial was dedicated on February 13, 2001 by the Massachusetts Chapter of the United States Landing Ship Tank Association.
