Plymouth Massachusetts 9/11 Memorial

Plymouth, MA. – On South Spooner Street in Plymouth, Massachusetts there is a memorial dedicated to the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks.  The memorial, which was created by former town of Plymouth Selectman Dicky Quintal, displays all of the names of the nearly 3,000 people who died as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  The center of the memorial has 8 granite blocks.  There is also a 10-foot beam from the wreckage of the World Trade Center towers.

In addition to the names of those who died on 9/11, there inspirational quotes inscribed in the front of the memorial. One of the quotes is from U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt: “If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships – the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together in the same world at peace.”

Another quote from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani reads: “Now each of us has a responsibility to live with the same courage embraced by those who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and the hijacked plane that crashed in Pennsylvania.  We have an obligation to honor their memory by doing everything we can to eradicate terrorism, so that no other child is orphaned by its evil.  We need to remain united as individuals, as Americans and as countries committed to life in the civilized world against the tyranny of terrorism.  As we begin the process of rebuilding our lives and our skyline, we should heed the words of a hymn that I heard repeatedly at the many memorial services I’ve attended over the past several weeks: “Be not afraid.”  As Americans we need to reassert our fundamental human right to live in freedom of fear.  Our nation is strong and united.  And now more than ever, we are the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
