Gold Star Families Memorial


Fall River, MA. - The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is located at Bicentennial Park on Davol Street in Fall River, Massachusetts.  The Gold Star Memorial, which consists of 4 upright stone panels, pays tribute to families in Massachusetts who have lost loved ones in service to the United States.  The Memorial was dedicated on September 25, 2016.

One inscription on the monument reads: “The Monument is in tribute to and honors the families who lost one or more loved ones in the armed forces of the United States.”

Another inscription reads: “To recognize the sacrifice made by families who gave their sons or daughters for the freedom of America.”

Each stone panel depicts a different aspect of a Gold Star family: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice.  The first depiction, which is “Homeland,” shows the United States of America.  The second image of the memorial is “Family” – which shows the families of military members who have died in service to the country.

The third depiction “Patriot” – represents the youth of the United States who have volunteered to serve their country.  Next to the “Patriot” section is a cut out of a missing person who represents the sacrifice made by those who have given their life in defense of the United States.

The last panel shows a family “grieving the loss of loved ones who sacrificed their lives to preserve our rights, liberties, and the American flag under which they served.”

The Life and Art of Allan Rohan Crite

The Boston Public Library was one of three locations in the city of Boston to display the art work of longtime Bostonian and artist Allan Rohan Crite. Beginning in the fall of 2007 until February 3, 2008, the BPL, the Boston Athenaeum, and the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists exhibited collected works of art from Crite’s storied career in The Life and Art of Allan Rohan Crite: 1910-2007 . Funded in part by the Boston Public Library Foundation, the exhibit offered onlookers a view into Crite’s lengthy artistic career. Political legislation brings attention to US Dental Care Crisis

A ccording to a report created by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and U.S. Representative Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) there is a national crisis in American dental care.   On June 7, 2012 Cummings and Sanders – the chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, introduced legislation to address the inefficiencies in the American dental care system.   Approximately 130 million Americans do not have dental insurance.   ¼ of American adults 65 and older have lost all of their teeth.   More than 75% of American adults over 30 have gum disease.   Additionally, about 17 million low-income children do not go to the dentist every year.
