Roadway Debris Causes Hazards for American Drivers

In August, 2016, the American Automobile Association (AAA) Foundation for Traffic Safety issued a report regarding roadway debris in the United States.  Research from the report stated that roadway debris resulted in more than 200,000 motor vehicle accidents from 2011 - 2014.  Also during this four-year span accidents from roadway debris caused 500 deaths.  Research from the AAA Foundation also shows that roadway debris is a more significant hazard on highways than on other roadways.  About 1/3rd of the road debris crashes occurred on highways.

The study also said that approximately 39,000 people were injured in motor vehicle accidents from 2011 - 2014 on roadways in the United States.  "This new report shows that road debris can be extremely dangerous but all of these crashes are preventable.  Drivers can easily save lives and prevent injuries by securing their loads and taking other simple precautions to prevent items from falling off the vehicle," says Jurek Grabowski - the AAA Foundation's research director.

The most common types of road debris are:
* Parts of a vehicle that become detached (lights, tires, etc.).
* Unsecured cargo such as appliances or furniture.
* Tow trailers becoming separated and hitting other vehicles or landing on the roadway.

The Life and Art of Allan Rohan Crite

The Boston Public Library was one of three locations in the city of Boston to display the art work of longtime Bostonian and artist Allan Rohan Crite. Beginning in the fall of 2007 until February 3, 2008, the BPL, the Boston Athenaeum, and the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists exhibited collected works of art from Crite’s storied career in The Life and Art of Allan Rohan Crite: 1910-2007 . Funded in part by the Boston Public Library Foundation, the exhibit offered onlookers a view into Crite’s lengthy artistic career. Political legislation brings attention to US Dental Care Crisis

A ccording to a report created by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and U.S. Representative Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) there is a national crisis in American dental care.   On June 7, 2012 Cummings and Sanders – the chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, introduced legislation to address the inefficiencies in the American dental care system.   Approximately 130 million Americans do not have dental insurance.   ¼ of American adults 65 and older have lost all of their teeth.   More than 75% of American adults over 30 have gum disease.   Additionally, about 17 million low-income children do not go to the dentist every year.
