World traveler focuses on 'Treasured Lands'
Lexington, MA. - “Treasured Lands: The Fifty-Eight U.S. National Parks in Focus” by Quang-Tuan Luong is a photograph exhibit that depicts scenic views of the wondrous National Parks in the United States. Over the past 15 years, Luong traveled to the 58 U.S. National Parks taking more than 7,000 pictures. A trained scientist, Luong was raised in France where he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Paris. Luong found his true passion in photography and traveling the world. His interest in photography and nature led him to travel America in order to capture the majestic views of the 58 National Parks.
Luong traveled to several states including: Alaska, American Samoa, Arkansas, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington state, and St. John U.S.V.I. In August, I visited the “Treasured Lands” exhibit where it is on display at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, Massachusetts.
Each picture of a given national park was accompanied by a brief description of the park including: date of the park’s opening, location, and a geological description.
The United States has numerous breathtaking natural areas. Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Alaska was established in 1980. Wrangell has more than 150 glaciers and it is home to 9 of the 16 highest mountain peaks in the U.S. First established in 1906, Cliff Palace Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado is the largest, best preserved, and most notable ancient Pueblo cliff dwellings in the U.S. The area now known as Cliff Palace was once the most developed civilization in ancient America around A.D. 1300.
Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is America’s first national park. It is located in parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. This national park is the only place in the continental U.S. where every species of native large mammal currently survives. Yellowstone is also the location of the Great Prismatic Springs – the largest hot springs in America.
The “Treasure Lands” exhibit also includes a picture of Cape Royal, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona founded in 1919. The Canyon is over one mile deep.
One of the most breathtaking pictures was of Schwabacher Landing at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. The photograph of Schwabacher Landing is a wondrous view of mountain tops, orange trees, and water.
“Treasured Lands” is a must see exhibit for any person who enjoys the outdoors. The photographs portray the greatness of the American National Park system and reaffirm the unique natural resources that are in the U.S. These natural resources should be preserved and maintained for the future.
